As an educator I have worked with First Stage, Skylight Music Theatre, Marquette University, UPAF and Summit Players Theatre, where I currently serve as Director of Education.
I have taught a variety of subjects but my primary focuses have always been Audition Techniques and Shakespeare. I also have a lot of experience creating Audience Discussion Guides and virtual educational content.
When teaching, my primary focus is empathy. In order for someone to grow, they have to feel like they can. Meeting students where they are at physically, mentally, and emotionally allows me to really understand not only who they are, but also how they learn. Every lesson I plan has elements that appeal to visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners alike, which assists in accessibility and, when combined with culturally responsive teaching, creates an environment that allows students the agency to play an active role in their education - something often lacking in a modern American curricula.
